Two other options in free agency that the Chicago Bears could add in 2023

Jakobi Meyers, WR – New England Patriots

The Patriots’ number one receiver this season may be available in the offseason, and given his current production, he could be an impact player in the Bears’ 2023 offense. With 40 catches and just over 450 receiving yards so far this season, Meyers has 4 fewer receptions than the next three receivers on his team combined.

A consistent target, Meyers has the ability to be another sure option for fields as Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool try to stretch the field vertically. Meyers, who turned 26 last Wednesday, is still young and explosive and could be a weapon for Justin Fields for three seasons before turning 30. Similar to Smith-Schuster, he will likely be relatively inexpensive, allowing the Chicago Bears to spend more money on other positions of need.

Mike Gesicki, TE – Miami Dolphins

Despite Cole Kmet blossoming as a receiving threat over the past couple of weeks, Kmet still leaves a lot to be desired in the middle of the field. Kmet, who provides value as a run blocker in a run-happy Bears offense, would compliment a tight end like Mike Gesicki, who struggles more as a run blocker but can get open almost immediately in the seams and in the middle of the field.

With the Miami offense being focused around Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, there is a chance that Gesicki leaves the Dolphins wanting a larger role and a larger contract, both of which the Bears can offer. This would allow the Chicago Bears to use two tight end sets for both the run game and also in the passing game, allowing Kmet to be a second tight end target or even a blocker to help the offensive line in pass protection. Gesicki could become a large body, reliable target in the middle of the field, something that could really improve Justin Fields’ play as a passer next season.
