The emergence of Jack Sanborn helps, but the Chicago Bears need LB help

When you look at the current roster, Jack Sanborn is the only lock for me to still be here in 2023 at the linebacker position. The only other LB on the books for 2023 is Sterling Weatherford. I don’t see Matt Adams or Nicholas Morrow being brought back at this point. Joe Thomas is another guy I’m not excited about. All of these guys are replaceable. They can return because the team needs depth, but Matt Eberflus needs to find some legit linebackers to put in the mix with Sanborn now that Roquan Smith was traded to Baltimore.

The good news is that you can find some very good off-the-ball linebackers in the NFL Draft. More importantly, you can find them in the later rounds. This means that the Bears can use their second, third, or fourth-round pick on the position. Personally, I’d wait until the third or the fourth. There are some guys in free agency too, but when it comes to an actual starter, I’d look to the draft.

Where to find one: 2023 NFL Draft (Mid-Rounds)

The top names available for the position include Noah Sewell and Henry To’oTo’o. I doubt either fall to the third. Depending on how other teams’ boards look, some of these guys could be had in the late second to fourth rounds. I’d love either of these two (won’t happen), or any of these other names if around: Jack Campbell, Demarvion Overshown, or Ventrell Miller. There are a few others, the point is that Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus can improve the linebacker position in the mid-to-late rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft.
