The Chicago Bears suffered another close game loss where they were unable to take the lead at the end of the game. This has been a theme for the Bears this year, and this week it came at the hands of a gritty Atlanta Falcons team. The final was 27-24, with the Falcons’ kicker putting a 53-yard field goal through the uprights with just under two minutes left. That kick stood as the game-winning score after the Bears were unable to put together a successful two-minute drive.

The Chicago Bears made some questionable calls late in the game

Chicago Bears Dud No. 1: Luke Getsy, offensive coordinator

After a couple of weeks of some chatter about Luke Getsy potentially being poached for a head coaching job in the offseason, things came back down to earth a bit after his game plan against the Falcons. We saw a lot of questionable personnel packages as well as just poor play-calling late in the game.

The Bears’ offense put together a great drive in the fourth quarter to tie the game, with Justin Fields going 6/6 passing. It was clear on that drive that Justin Fields was already feeling beat up. He looked to pass on multiple plays that broke down instead of taking off like he normally does.

Knowing that, on the drive in which the Bears needed to score on, Getsy dialed up two consecutive quarterback-designed runs that basically put the nail in the coffin in terms of how Fields was feeling. A hard hit on the second down run with no flag thrown and a poor play call on third down was the end of the road for the Bears.

Getsy has to trust the ability to pass the ball in that situation. Also, they did not utilize Chase Claypool enough in this game once again. With what was invested into this young receiver, Getsy should be calling plays that are for him. The offense took a step back today, particularly by not having a successful day through the air. Not all of it was on Getsy today, but there was a bad game plan and poor decisions made in the clutch by the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator.
