The Chicago Bears get serious about the wide receiver position

Sixth Pick — 5th Round — 156th Overall

Charlie Jones, Wide Receiver – Purdue

Jones came out of absolutely nowhere after warming the bench at Iowa before transferring to Purdue to team up with quarterback Aidan O’Connell who was a childhood friend of his. Since then Jones has lit the big ten on fire with 1000 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns and counting so far in this season. Jones has no weaknesses as a pass catcher when going against man and zone, he also returns kicks and punts. Not a dynamic athlete by any means, but that has yet to stop him. He is a bit older for a prospect but for how badly the Bears need wide receiver talent, that should not scare them away.

Seventh Pick — 6th Round — 165th Overall

Bryce Ford-Wheaton, Wide Receiver – West Virginia

Ford-Wheaton has all the tools to be an outside wide receiver at the next level, he has speed, he has size, he has explosiveness. He started off the season blazing hot but has cooled off since then. His size and speed combo with his contested catch ability remind me of Romeo Doubs.

Wheaton is more of a developmental pick than anything and should be a risk the Bears are willing to take in later rounds to get wide receiver talent.

Eighth Pick — 6th Round — 170th Overall

Brenton Cox Jr, EDGE – Florida

Cox had a ton of hype coming into 2022 but the hype train is beyond off the rails at this point. He came into the year as a guy who could become a first-round pick but he got dismissed from the team at Florida and has a bit of maturing to do if he wants to make it to the next level. But the dude can flat-out play, he is super talented, super strong, and can defend the run and pass to a high level. Cox will need time to channel his talents before excelling at the NFL level, but the tools are there to be a great player.
