What is the update on Eddie Jackson?

When Garrett Wilson caught his second touchdown of the day fans were much more worried than disappointed. The touchdown cracked the game open, but no one could notice anything other than a Chicago Bears athlete down on the turf as the play happened.

It was hard to make out what happened, as we later learned that Eddie Jackson went down with a non-contact injury. The team is calling this a foot injury, and we currently do not have any updates.

What makes this most alarming is how quickly the team ruled Jackson out for this game. They are needing extra tests to confirm anything, but it appears that even if Jackson is back this season, he is probably out through the bye week.

The team ended up relying on Elijah Hicks to fill in for Jackson.

This is another one that has off-season implications. The Chicago Bears could save about $8M in cap space if they moved on from Jackson after this season. If this is an injury that will take almost a year to recover from, they have to consider this option. If they do not think Jackson can provide for them next year, they have to get out of the contract as soon as possible to keep the rebuild alive.

Of course, if Jackson is going to be healthy is a few weeks, or even early into the offseason, the team is much more likely to swallow his big contract, considering the season he has had.

Still, he went from a core player to a questionable future, and that is never good.
