Chicago Bears – Pick No. 48: Tyree Wilson, EDGE – Texas Tech

I think it is fairly obvious that this team is depleted of defensive talent up front. In the 2022 NFL Draft, we saw Ryan Poles attempt to fix the Chicago Bears’ secondary by using the team’s first two picks on defensive backs. Jaquan Brisker looks to be a stud and Kyler Gordon has flashed as well. I was expecting more from him, but hopefully, with a better pass rush in 2023, he can find ways to get his hands on the football.

Trevis Gipson was a disappointment this season and the defensive tackles haven’t been getting the job done either. Building teams through the trenches is the way to go once you have a franchise quarterback. Justin Fields is that guy and looking early in the draft to add help in the trenches makes way too much sense.

Tyree Wilson isn’t Will Anderson, but he’s a nice consolation prize. Wilson isn’t going to have the same problems we have seen from Dominique Robinson this season. He does a great job holding his containment — something Robinson and even Robert Quinn struggled with this year. Wilson isn’t the fastest defensive end, but he uses his power and high motor to keep fighting. He has seven sacks on the year and a forced fumble. He’d likely step in and take over as the starting defensive end on his first day of camp.
