The 2022 NFL season is approaching the final few weeks. The Chicago Bears have four games left after sitting out this week on their bye. The team is out of playoff contention but still has plenty to play for. The team is in a rebuilding year and needs to evaluate players and even coaches. Matt Eberflus, Alan Williams, and Luke Getsy are all in new roles. Ryan Poles is also a first-time general manager. However, it is his job to evaluate basically everyone.
While Poles has to worry about everyone else, I think it’s only fair for us to evaluate his first offseason. I’m going to break things down between the 2022 NFL Draft, free-agent acquisitions/losses, and trades that took place this season.
Assigning grades to the Chicago Bears 2022 offseason
Many factors will come into play. The current and future salary cap situation. The team’s current draft capital, and was any of that capital acquired by Ryan Poles? I’m going to look over everything and then assign a letter grade for each section of the offseason. No matter the outcome, this is why the Chicago Bears should have a President of Football Operations.
Hell, they could even consider using a Board of Directors approach if they don’t want to trust just one person to oversee everything. Right now, it’s George McCaskey who is “in charge.” Do any of you truly trust a fan — that is what McCaskey told us he was — to oversee this team and make the best decisions? Ironically, that’s exactly what I am doing with this article.
