Another loss on Sunday inches the Chicago Bears closer and closer to the 2023 offseason when the team is expected to spend some of their league-high available cap space. The Bears look to improve this team around Justin Fields by adding other talented, young players to the roster.

Eagles’ defensive tackle has a dominant game against the Chicago Bears

Entering Week 15, the Chicago Bears were dead last in the league in quarterback sacks. With the defensive line being a priority in free agency and the draft, the Bears faced a tackle who should be at the top of their list.

Eagles’ defensive tackle Javon Hargrave recorded two sacks on Justin Fields on Sunday, pushing his season total to eight through 14 games. A free agent at the end of the season, the 29-year-old tackle would be a perfect fit for Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles to add to this young defense, as the team has produced virtually no pressure through 15 weeks.

Hargrave, who has played both for the Eagles and Steelers throughout his career, has consistently been a productive pass rusher, with just under 35 career sacks at the end of his seventh NFL season. The Eagles, who also have Fletcher Cox and 2022 first-round pick Jordan Davis, may be unable to offer Hargrave a substantial contract. If that is the case, Chicago should be knocking on the door to add the productive veteran.

Eagles’ linebacker continues elite season versus the Chicago Bears

Sticking with the Philadelphia defense, linebacker T.J. Edwards, another 2023 free agent, played well against the Bears, He accumulated five solo tackles and four assisted tackles in Sunday’s win versus Chicago.

The Bears, who have clearly struggled against the run this year, gave up 112 rushing yards against the second-best rushing team in the league. Edwards could go a long way to help this unit in the future.

Edwards, a Lake Villa, Illinois native, entered Week 15 as the number eight total tackler in the NFL with 125 total tackles on the year. Now at 134 tackles on the season, Edwards is an active player in the run game and would instantly be not only the best linebacker on the team but probably the best member of the front seven on defense.

It is also important to note that Edwards not only grew up a Bears fan but watched great Chicago Bears linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs growing up. This offseason, Edwards may have to opportunity to sign with his hometown team, and the Chicago Bears should not hesitate with an offer if the linebacker becomes available on the open market.
