Justin Fields’ Chicago Bears Christmas List: A killer instinct

No. I am not talking about Justin Fields needing a killer instinct. I am talking about this team as a whole. Too often, the Chicago Bears find themselves in close games. Too often, this team has failed to put the game away or comeback to win. In 14 games, the Chicago Bears have had eight of them finish by no more than one score (8 points). They have only won one of those eight games. With a 1-7 record in close games, that tells me a few things. Mostly, that the team doesn’t know how to win or finish.

Not every game had the same narrative. There were a few games when the Chicago Bears were leading in the second half and seemed to take their foot off the gas. Too often this coaching staff gets conservative in their opponents side of the field — almost as though they are just playing for a field goal. On the flip side, there have been a few games when they had an opportunity to win the game and Justin Fields either threw an interception or the offense stalled on fourth down.

I am not sure how much freedom Luke Getsy has in his play calling late in games or even in other specific situations. It could be a Matt Eberflus problem. Whoever it is, I am confident that Justin Fields would prefer to be more aggressive at times and maybe Santa Claus can instill a killer instinct into this coaching staff and some of Fields’ teammates.
