Only three games remain in the 2022 season. The Chicago Bears are currently 3-10 despite being in a position to win seven of those 10 games they lost. In 13 games, the Bears lost by less than one score and had opportunities late to either come back to win or hold their opponents at bay in eight of them. Talk about some bad luck. Luck isn’t the only thing to do with it. This team needs to learn how to win. It has not done that this year and that’s why they find themselves on a seven-game losing streak with the possibility of losing their final three to finish out the season.
As it stands, the team will have less than 35 players under contract heading into the 2023 season. The good news is this team is depleted of talent in certain areas, has a full slate of draft picks in 2023, and is projected to have the most salary cap space in the league by far. The combination of offseason money and draft capital could instantly help Ryan Poles put the Chicago Bears back in the playoff hunt. The roster could look completely different in many ways next season.
The Chicago Bears could surprise fans by releasing any of these three players
While Ryan Poles looks over the roster and makes decisions on who to add or let go, it’s possible that some surprised could be in store. What positions to target in free agency vs the 2023 NFL Draft could play a major role in which players are in an orange and blue uniform next season. If Poles is able to upgrade specific areas, it’s possible that it might force a few others out the door. This leads me to three players who I think are relatively safe, but could also surprise us by being released in the offseason.
