4. Can Chicago Bears get Velus Jones involved on offense?
The rookie season for Velus Jones has been a disaster. He has four catches this season, and the reality is that when you break those down, they were all schemed up, and they were all behind the line of scrimmage. A few screens and a few pop passes from the jet sweep spot are all that he has accounted for.
They threw deep to him against Dallas and he dropped a pass, and beyond that, he has hardly been called on in that area. So, to close the season there are two things we would like to see.
First, he has to protect the football. Even on his limited repetitions on offense the plays he touches the ball are not positive. Beyond that, he has to find a way to get involved in the offense beyond being the primary reason the play was called.
It would be great to see Velus Jones run a route or show some ability to start to show a route tree. The fumbles are one thing, but the fact that he does not have a role in the offense beyond the plays they have to draw up for him is even more alarming.
The Chicago Bears need to see more from Velus Jones, and with Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool out, there will not be a more open chance.
