Chicago Bears Option No.2: Brandon Aiyuk

The San Francisco 49ers have constructed one of the most well-rounded rosters in football, with elite talent on both sides of the ball. Players such as Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams, and now Christian McCaffery make up a star-studded core.

However, there are costs to having such immense talent. The 49ers’ willingness to pay these players their worth limits their ability to pay other valuable contributors. Back in 2020, the 49ers sent DeForest Buckner to the Colts for draft capital to save money. They may look to do the same thing with Aiyuk in 2023.

Even with the elite surrounding talent, Aiyuk has proven himself valuable. Through 14 games, he leads the team in catches (60), receiving yards (774), and touchdowns (7). Aiyuk has been especially effective on intermediate routes, and his shiftiness makes him a threat after the catch. He can break man coverage in a way that no current Chicago Bears receiver can.

Aiyuk fits a lot of what the Bears are looking for in a receiver. He’s young, athletic, and skilled. It wouldn’t be a surprise if San Francisco listened to offers for him this offseason, and if they do, the Bears should pounce at the opportunity.
