The Bears’ defensive line has been in shambles most of the season. Justin Jones has been the brightest spot and that doesn’t speak well for the team or even the team’s future. Trevis Gipson was supposed to take a step forward or at least remain consistent after a seven-sack season in 2021. That hasn’t come close as Gipson has two sacks this year and it happened in Week 2 vs the Packers. The Chicago Bears cannot find sustained success with a defensive line struggling like this.

Chicago came away with one sack last week vs Buffalo and it propelled Jaquan Brisker further atop the team as the current sack leader. Brisker only has four sacks total now and is a safety. This is highly unacceptable. I never thought this team would dominate the sacks leaderboard, but I thought they’d be better than this. More specifically, I thought they’d at least be putting some pressure on the opposing quarterback. Instead, quarterbacks have been able to take all the time they need to pick apart the Bears’ secondary.

The Chicago Bears need to make these three moves to be better in 2023

Over the last two weeks, the team has taken advantage of takeaways despite no pass rush. That’s not sustainable though and the defense has struggled to get off the field at times. With a better pass rush, I’d expect the turnover ratio to be better too. Ryan Poles has to hit on all cylinders in the 2023 offseason. Here are three moves I believe the Bears can make to turn this defensive front from swiss cheese to fine cheddar. The only way they can be derailed is if some of these names re-sign an extension with their current teams. We just saw it happen on the offensive line.
