5 reasons to trust Alan Williams to turn Chicago Bears defense around
2. Chicago Bears have changed up the defensive line.
The defensive line is awful, but as we noted Alan Williams has tried to resolve this by blitzing more. He has also made plenty of shuffles along the defensive line. He is not leaving things static.
At first, after the Robert Quinn trade, they had Al-Quadin Muhammad take his side, which bumped up Trevis Gipson to start. An injury aided the transition, but eventually, the team was starting Dominique Robinson, and AQM would spell both Gipson and Robinson sporadically.
Now, AQM and Robinson are in a 50/50 split while Taco Charlton is about 30/70 with Trevis Gipson. They have moved Robinson inside and outside, they have started four different guys with over five different starting combinations between them, and guys such as Gerri Green and Kinglsey Jonathan have been in the mix
Then, there is the interior. They started with Angelo Blackson starting week one. He is now a healthy inactive behind Armon Watts and Andrew Brown. Watts was claimed after being released in August by the Vikings. Brown was claimed from the Cardinals practice squad about a month ago.
The defensive line is awful, but it is not for lack of trying by Alan Williams. He comes in every week with tweaks and changes.
