No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence vs Justin Fields

"2022 Stats: 3,749 yards, 24 touchdowns, seven interceptions, Career Stats: 7,390 yards, 36 touchdowns, 24 interceptions"

Trevor Lawrence’s road to the first overall pick had been one several years making, even dating back to high school. He was the highest-rated player in the country and was the consensus No. 1 overall pick for nearly his entire collegiate career.

After a disastrous rookie season highlighted by the mid-season firing of Urban Meyer, Lawrence has seemed to find his footing in year two. He’s shown great improvement across the board and looks far more like his Clemson self than he did in 2021. Lawrence even has the chance to take the Jaguars to the playoffs in just his second season.

The AFC is absolutely loaded with quarterback talent. While it remains to be seen whether Lawrence can make the jump to the elite level, his development has been promising, and Jaguars fans should be excited for what’s to come.

How does Trevor Lawrence compare to Justin Fields?

Lawrence’s connection to Fields is especially intriguing since the two came from the same state of Georgia. Lawrence has seemed to always have the upper hand. He was the No.1 rated player in the country in his high school recruiting class on both 24/7 and Rivals, with Fields coming in at No. 2. Following the 2019 season, scouts had Lawrence as the projected top pick, with Fields going second. It feels like no matter what Fields does, he has always been stuck in Lawrence’s shadow.

If the Jaguars could do it all over again, it’s hard to imagine they would go a different direction with the first pick. Lawrence seems to be well on his way to being a very good quarterback in this league. Although Fields is an exciting prospect in his own right, Lawrence’s strength as a pure passer makes him a much safer pick.
