No. 15 overall pick Mac Jones vs Justin Fields

"2022 stats: 2,550 yards, nine touchdowns, eight interceptions Career stats: 6,351 yards, 31 touchdowns, 21 interceptions"

After leading Alabama to an undefeated national championship in 2020, Mac Jones saw his draft stock improve dramatically. Jones was taken 15th overall by the New England Patriots, a team that many thought would be a perfect fit for Jones.

Jones was clearly the best rookie quarterback in 2021. Though it was nothing extraordinary, Jones led his team to the playoffs and looked like the future of the Patriots. However, Jones’ 2022 campaign leaves little to be desired. He has almost as many interceptions as he does touchdowns and has failed to win a game in which his defense allows more than 17 points.

How does Mac Jones compare to Justin Fields?

Fields has been markedly better than Jones this season. Additionally, Fields’ improvement and Jones’ regression from a season make it feel like the two are on very different paths.

One of the biggest strengths of Jones’ game was his pro readiness. His processing and ability to get rid of the ball quickly made for a seamless transition to the NFL. But now fans are starting to see why he was the fifth quarterback off the board. He lacks the physical traits to create and needs great players around him to excel. Neither Jones nor Fields have great surrounding talent, but Fields has done a much better job of making the most of a bad situation.
