No. 67 overall pick Davis Mills vs Justin Fields

"2022 stats: 2,618 yards, 14 touchdowns, 13 interceptions Career stats: 5,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, 23 interceptions"

The only quarterback to get considerable playing time from this draft outside of the first round is the Texans’ Davis Mills. Mills would have likely been a more sought-after prospect in another draft, but since the 2021 class featured so many highly touted players at the position, he was a bit of an afterthought.

Mills had a solid rookie campaign, but 2022 has put an end to most of the optimism. Mills was briefly benched for Kyle Allen, and with the Texans on track to draft first in this upcoming draft, his days with Houston may be numbered.

How does Davis Mills compare to Justin Fields?

This was never much of a debate. Fields was the far superior prospect coming out of college, and even though Mills was better statistically in 2021, very few thought of him as a better player.

Mills is a very basic player with defined limitations. He can work inside of a structure but is almost useless outside of it. Fields is obviously far better as a rusher, but his mobility and arm talent also make him a more dynamic passer.

Coming out of college, Mills’ game seemed to resemble that of a backup. That certainly appears to be the direction things are going, and for a third-round pick, that shouldn’t be viewed as a bad thing.
