I will fully admit that I was way too optimistic about the Chicago Bears this season. I can sit here and try to defend my stance as the team lost seven of eight games by eight points (one score) or less. I can try to defend my stance even more since Ryan Poles traded away Robert Quinn and Roquan Smith — both decisions being the right decisions. I can try to defend my stance further by pointing out all of the key injuries the team has had throughout the year. I can also try to defend Justin Fields, who set records with his legs but had little help through the air.
I won’t do that though.
Instead, accountability has to be at the forefront of everything we do as bloggers/writers/journalists/etc. who cover a sports team. I cannot sit here and give you my opinions and hot takes and then expect to run from them when I was wrong — while at the same time touting everything I get correct.
The Chicago Bears dodge a huge mistake vs the Vikings in Week 18
When we look at this Chicago Bears football team, accountability is also important. This goes from the top, all the way down to the bottom — Ryan Poles all the way down to even the interns. This especially includes Matt Eberflus, Luke Getsy, Alan Williams, and Justin Fields.
Poles has not had a perfect offseason. He’s had some missteps along the way. For example, the Chase Claypool trade looks like it could even be a massive blunder. Matt Eberflus has also made some serious mistakes this season. One could argue the whole Lucas Patrick and Teven Jenkins rotation was a huge mistake. He’s definitely played it too conservatively (give some blame to Luke Getsy as well) once reaching the opponent’s half of the field too. Alan Williams hasn’t helped the defense and Justin Fields has had his share of struggles too.
