4. Will Chicago Bears re-sign Dante Pettis?
When the Chicago Bears signed Dante Pettis, not much was made of it. He was a former second-round pick but never lived up to that status. Still, he is currently second on the team in routes amongst wide receivers. That speaks to how much they have needed him.
Still, his low targets, yards, and yards per route run show a player who was filling a space that is an obvious need for the team. Pettis was out there, and he accumulated some stats by the sheer volume of playing, but this was not a great season.
He was not open enough, and he dropped too many passes. Pettis is also the punt return man but that was mainly because Velus Jones failed out of the role. There is a chance that he will compete for that role next year, but in most likely scenarios, a rookie wideout or running back could step in there via a late draft pick as well.
When looking at the Chicago Bears depth chart they have Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool supposed to be in the top three. They also have Equaniemous St. Brown and Velus Jones to round out depth. They need one more big name up top, and that is not Dante Pettis. If he wanted to come back and compete to be the five of six, he can. However, they offered St. Brown a deal for next season, and not Pettis, which shows which depth wideout they want back.
