The Chicago Bears might consider bringing back DeAndre Houston-Carson

We have seen DeAndre Houston-Carson in a Chicago Bears uniform for his entire seven-year career. He has been a backup most of his career, but has starting experience filling in when players ahead of him go down with injuries. He was one of a select few players who were retained by the new regime as he came back on a one-year deal.

Houston-Carson has had to start five games for the Chicago Bears this season. He has one interception in each of the last three seasons. He is also a big contributor on special teams. He saw 66% of the special teams snaps this season, while also playing 34% of the defensive snaps.

I can see Matt Eberflus wanting to bring Houston-Carson back in 2023. His advanced stats were the best of his career. In 2022, Houston-Carson saw 11 targets but only allowed four of them to be completed for a 36.4% completion percentage. Quarterbacks have a QB rating of only 14.6 when throwing his direction. Clearly, the small sample size is at play here, but drastically better than prior years with a similar sample size. I could see him brought back on another short-term deal worth no more than $2 million per year.
