The Chicago Bears should be bringing back Khari Blasingame

The Chicago Bears didn’t use Khari Blasingame as much as I thought they would this season. That said, when he was on the field, he was helping the double-headed attack of David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert dominate most games. Blasingame would hit holes hard and clear out linebackers who were crashing into the gap. He was key to many big runs and also some tough yards gained by David Montgomery.

It’s not often that you see fullbacks in the NFL any longer. In fact, if you look at the fullback free agent list, only 12 are showing and the Chicago Bears currently have two of them. The other one, Trevon Wesco, played more of a tight end role for Chicago. If Luke Getsy wants to continue to use a fullback in his system, then Blasingame should be back in Chicago on another short-term deal.

Although Blasingame wasn’t used in the running game, he did have one target. Unfortunately, it did not result in a completion. Blasingame did see some action for the Tennessee Titans during his first two seasons. He has caught 10 of 13 targets but has yet to find the end zone. Maybe he can do that in Chicago next year. I can see Blasingame earning a slight bump in salary to just over $1 million.

The one other name I wanted to put on this list who bares mentioning is Nicholas Morrow. I could see Morrow returning as more of a rotational player. He’s not starting material in my opinion but could be in the rotation as a backup.
