The debate will rage on, and many fans will be annoyed. However, when you hear a pundit saying that the Chicago Bears should trade Justin Fields, or move him to wide receiver, then draft a quarterback, you should smile. This is only good news.
In fact, the Chicago Bears should lean into this. They should let it publicly be known that they plan to evaluate every quarterback and if they feel the quarterback is the best player available, they will take him.
Chicago Bears should show interest in quarterback
They should do this because all it is doing is fueling their trade demands. The biggest return in a trade will be because a team is trading up for a quarterback. The other factor to impact the return will be how many teams want that quarterback.
So, the more teams that want the pick, the higher the demand, which means they get supplied more in return. What is an easy way to ensure that one more team is interested? Be the team interested.
If you want to trade up for the Chicago Bears you do not only need to beat our competition, you have to wow the Bears, who may just take the best quarterback, your prized possession. If the Bears say that they want to trade down, and they have no interest in the quarterback, it drives the price down.
If teams know they will not take a quarterback, and the price gets too high, they will swarm around pick three for the next quarterback at a cheaper cost. There is nothing to gain by pulling themselves out of the quarterback conversation.
By showing interest in a quarterback, they are telling teams they cannot wait until pick three, they have to pay up or miss out. At this point and time, it would be insane for them not to buy into this, and the media adding to the hype is only a good thing.
Do not get mad when rumors swirl that the team may move on from Fields, or that they are high on insert quarterback here. It is the smart thing to do, and even the biggest Justin Fields fan should agree.
