The Chicago Bears 2022 season has officially come to a close. For many fans, this day could not have come soon enough. After starting the year 2-1, the Bears dropped 13 of their next 14, including losing their ten games, to finish with a league-worst 3-14 record. While the team’s performance on the field left little to be desired, this season was the wake-up call that the new Bears regime desperately needed.
This team is not one or two pieces away from contender status; Instead, they are in the midst of a roster overhaul. In other words, outside of a select few individuals, no one is safe. Chicago moved on from several veteran leaders on both sides of the ball during the offseason and this year’s trade deadline. It would be naive to think there won’t be more of that in the future.
Chicago Bears had numerous individual winners and losers this season
This current approach toward constructing a roster emphasizes recent performance, as a team that may still be multiple years away from competing has little value for players who are at the tail end of exiting their primes. Additionally, the team’s various holes have given lower-profile players auditions for more prominent roles.
Calling the Bears’ 2022 performance dreadful would be an understatement. However, to understand the true anatomy of the team’s roster going forward, we need to view things on a player-by-player basis.
