David Walker, Chicago Bears running backs coach

David Walker had not coached since 2018. Like Janocko, he has had some ups and downs as well. Walker did not pick David Montgomery or Khalil Herbert, but it was smart of them to recognize that the third back in the room had explosiveness and had to be a pass catcher.

They claimed Darrynton Evans and drafted Trestan Ebner. Ebner is younger and brought more upside, but this season proved that Evans was clearly better, and it took until Justin Fields took a bad sack thanks to Ebner until the staff got that right.

Even still, the staff has struggled to work in Evans now that Montgomery is back from injury. The Chicago Bears have tried to have a timeshare between Montgomery and Herbert, but that never got solidified, either.

Of course, Herbert missed a few games, then Montgomery missed a few games, and between it all, they never found continuity. Still, the Bears started with Montgomery as closer to 75% and slowly started to work it closer to a 60-40 split.

Walker has had issues with working with Herbert and should have recognized that Evans was better In the passing game than the rookie Ebner. Still, with all of the moving pieces, the run game was never an issue, and Walker gets some slack there.
