Tyke Tolbert, Chicago Bears WR coach, pass game coordinator

As you might think from the titles, he may be the coach in the hottest water. Some of this has to come down on Ryan Poles. He paid Byron Pringle the most of his free agents, drafted Velus Jones, he traded for N’Keal Harry and Chase Claypool. Then, if you had to list the biggest passing game disappointments, it would be those names.

Still, this will end up falling on the receiver’s coach and passing game coordinator. Pringle and Harry suffered injuries that hurt their chances to contribute early in the season. Still, the long wait to see either of them at all was confusing. Are they both that much worse than Dante Pettis and Equanimeous St. Brown? Is the wide receivers coach asking too much of them?

The same can be said of Claypool and Velus Jones. Neither of them has been trusted to see the field as full-time players because they apparently are not integrated enough in the offense. Luke Getsy definitely takes a hit for this, but the job of Tolbert is to get these guys up to speed.

When you think of St. Brown, you think of his run blocking, which is great, but the WR coach and passing game coordinator cannot point to run blocking and say that he is getting the most out of St. Brown.

Maybe the pieces were not right, and the playbook was too tough. However, the job of Tolbert is to work with the pieces make sure his room is prepared, and play the best players. He has struggled to do that all season.
