Chris Morgan, Chicago Bears offensive line coach

The Chicago Bears’ offensive line was not great, and many will blame the shortcomings on this unit, so the expectation is that a bad grade will be coming. However, when you think about the pieces that Chris Morgan was dealing with, it is hard to put too much on him,

To start, he turned fifth-round rookie Braxton Jones into a starter. Yes, Jones gets the majority of the credit for that, and he was incredible to not miss a single snap all season. Still, Morgan was in the room when he was drafted, given a shot to start, named the starter, and was there through his progression.

At center, he wanted Lucas Patrick and never got that. At right tackle, he was dealt a bad hand. It is fair to ding Chris Morgan for Teven Jenkins in some light. The team tried to move on from Jenkins and only moved him to guard as a last resort.

Still, it was not Morgan fielding trade calls, and Morgan wanted to see him fail at tackle before moving him to guard because tackle is such a valuable position. The fact that he did make the change, recognized that Jenkins was doing well, then let him be the full-time starter gets him more credit.

So, the Chicago Bears line had awful personnel. Still, they ran the ball well, and Jones and Jenkins became starters when many did not see that happening at their respective position. You have to give him some credit there and trust the process.

Chris Morgan Grade: B-
