Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Round 7, Pick 219 – Charlie Jones, WR, Purdue

With the Chicago Bears having received D.K. Metcalf in the trade for their No. 1 pick, drafting a receiver like Jaxon Smith-Njigba or Jordan Addison became less of a need and more of a want.

Sure, they could still draft a receiver higher in the draft, but with the holes this Bears team has, using those picks on another receiver might be overkill.

That said, getting Charlie Jones with one of the final picks in the NFL Draft would be an absolute steal.

He might not check every box that an elite receiver does, but if there’s one thing Charlie Jones does better than most, it’s catching the football.

Starting in the MAC and then bouncing around in the Big Ten, Charlie Jones has made a name for himself at Purdue by being a quarterback’s safety net.

If the ball is thrown to him, he’s going to catch it.

And for a team like the Chicago Bears who really, really could use a player with glue-like hands, Charlie Jones is their guy.

In his final season with Purdue, Jones accumulated 1,361 yards and 12 TDs off 110 receptions.

Those numbers would cement Charlie Jones as a Big Ten star, as he ranked first in the Big Ten in receiving yards and second in receiving TDs, only being two behind Marvin Harrison Jr.

While he might not be among college football’s best players, he’s certainly a player with a high ceiling if he continues to improve on his game.
