3. Velus Jones is bordering the bust line

We are not going quite to the bust talk yet. It is hard to do that for a player who just finished his rookie season. Beyond that,  he was a third-round pick, so expectations are not sky-high. Still, this was an awful year for Velus Jones, no doubt about it.

It started with losing his punt return job. He never got that back. He lost the kick return job, and that appears to be a sign of life for Jones entering the offseason.

Still, special teams was his only focus for far too much of this season. For a team with Dante Pettis, and Equanimeous St. Brown leading the group in snaps, it is hard to justify faith in Velus Jones when he could not get on the field over them.

Heck, it took until week 16 for him to catch a pass that was not a designed target behind the line of scrimmage. His last three games featured well over half of his receiving yards.

The reality is that while Jones will be back next season, they hardly have him fitting into their plans. ESB is re-signed. Beyond that, they have Darnell Mooney, and Chase Claypool, and should add another name. He is going to enter the year as the number five at best, and a special teams option. It is hard to see room for upside, and if this is all that we have seen so far, it is not a great draft pick.
