2. Chicago Bears needed more from Larry Borom

When you think about it, Larry Borom had the chance to be a starter at three positions this season and did not stick. Many saw him as a future guard, but he got shots at both tackle spots first. Now it appears he is just a backup. That is not a winning season.

First, he was getting work as the first-team left tackle. Rookie fifth-round pick Braxton Jones beat him out, and it seemed to have started from the first day of training camp. So, since that happened so quickly, they shuffled him to right tackle.

Borom got enough work to start week one, but when he got injured in week seven, the team called on Riley Reiff. Reiff was clearly better than him, and even though he lost the job due to injury, Borom did not get it back.

He missed weeks 8-11 and played week 12, but then immediately gave the job back up. In week 16 he played left guard, and in week 18 he played right guard. Those two were very poor performances by Borom.

Ryan Poles and this coaching staff did not draft Borom, and they are not heavily invested in him. They gave him shots at every spot on the line and it is hard to say that he showed any growth worth sticking around at any spot. The team may look to dump him for a late pick, or just have him be their versatile backup. That is a long way from the thick of a left tackle competition, which is where he stood at this moment last season.
