It appears Chicago Bears fans are confused about Kevin Warren’s role

Too often, fans like to throw around nonsense at anyone who will listen. That seemed to be the case while live streaming the Chicago Bears press conference today. Kevin Warren passed his first press conference with flying colors. However, it was frustrating to see fans commenting, no actually it was more like demanding moves they want to see the Bears make in either the draft or free agency.

First of all, the comments that pop up on Twitter while watching a live stream aren’t seen by anyone of importance within the Chicago Bears organization. These fans were not discussing moves with one another, it was as if they thought they could actually get through to the Bears’ front office. Second of all, even if the front office were to see or read your messages, directing them at Kevin Warren is not going to help.

Kevin Warren does not make day-to-day football decisions for the Chicago Bears

We have gone down this path before with Ted Phillips. The President and CEO of the Chicago Bears is a very high-profile and important position. However, it is not the responsibility of this person to oversee the day-to-day football decisions. The way that the Chicago Bears hierarchy is set up, the general manager, Ryan Poles in this scenario, is the one to make all of those decisions.

Now, Poles obviously reports to Kevin Warren, therefore Warren has some say in what goes on from a football operations standpoint. However, Warren is only responsible from a macro level, while Poles is responsible for both the macro and micro levels. If fans want to see certain players brought in through either the draft or free agency, shouting at Warren isn’t the answer. He’s the wrong guy. Shout your demands at Ryan Poles and his staff.

If you are looking for something to yell at Kevin Warren about, bring up the stadium. That’s his number one concern as soon as he officially steps into his new role in April. You can also demand upgrades to things like Halas Hall (recently renovated so nothing to complain about really), fan events, etc. You can demand a better culture and more accountability. You could even bring up player contracts to a certain degree, but the team counts on Cliff Stein for those again. If Ryan Poles and his staff fail to put a winning team together relatively soon, then you can also yell at Kevin Warren about firing Poles.

You see, these are the things that fans should be discussing and yelling about when addressing the President and CEO of the Chicago Bears, not things like signing Daron Payne or trading for Davante Adams. You are literally wasting your breath (or keystrokes) with these demands.
