Realistic draft trade starting points for the Chicago Bears first-overall pick
It’s doubtful, but here’s what a Cardinals, Chicago Bears trade looks like
The only way I could see the Arizona Cardinals having any interest in trading up with the Chicago Bears is if the team’s new general manager wants to guarantee they lock up Will Anderson. Having J.J. Watt retire could force the Cardinals into looking at an EDGE rusher and Anderson is the cream of the crop. However, they could also stay put and look to draft Jalen Carter or Myles Murphy should Anderson not fall. Anderson falling is a highly likely scenario and staying put is probably worth the risk for a somewhat rebuilding franchise.
Now, should they get crazy, here is what it would take to move up from three to first overall:
As you can see, this would be quite a haul to move up two spots in the draft. This alone is why I don’t believe it’s worth the risk for the Cardinals to make a trade-up — even for Anderson.
The first pick in the draft is worth 3,000 points (Johnson) and 1,000 points (Hill). In this scenario, the Cardinals come out ahead on the Rich Hill scale, but slightly behind on the Jimmy Johnson scale. The Chicago Bears would end up with a total of 3,068 points (2,200+560+38.5+270) on the Johnson scale and 889 points (514+175+16+184) on the Hill scale. Once again, the trade will end up somewhere in the middle but this would be the starting point for Ryan Poles.
