Chicago Bears Senior Bowl Scouting: Jarrett Patterson, C – Notre Dame

Another player who I have a similar grade to Cody Mauch is Jarrett Patterson. I’ll be honest, I tend to bump up Notre Dame players more than I should. I struggle to separate my fandom of the team when doing these analyses at times. I have him as a late, third-rounder but in all honesty, he should probably have a fourth-round grade. Patterson could play guard or center in the NFL, but I’d love to see him at center if the Chicago Bears select him.

Patterson has experience playing center and left guard for the Irish. It did not matter which position he played though, as he didn’t let up a single sack throughout his collegiate career. Patterson has a high football IQ and you see it with his technique. He is 6’4″ and 310 pounds. Patterson has good range but isn’t as mobile as Ryan Poles may like. He has a high motor and doesn’t stop until the play is blown dead.

Patterson has some work to do though if he wants to find his way into any team’s starting lineup. As technically sound as he is with his lower body, he needs to work on his hand techniques. He can find himself washed out by quicker defensive linemen because he cannot get his hands in the right spots soon enough and he loses some of his strength. Overall though, Patterson is a guy the Chicago Bears need to keep an eye on in the mid-rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft.
