4 Chiefs the Chicago Bears can add to the 2023 roster
The Chicago Bears should consider JuJu Smith-Schuster if he hits free agency
Everyone wants the Chicago Bears to trade for a top-tier wide receiver. Tee Higgins, D.J. Moore and other names have been rumored by fans, but the likelihood of a trade like that happening is slim. To be honest, I’d rather the Chicago Bears sign a player like JuJu Smith-Schuster in free agency and then use future draft capital to ensure they draft Marvin Harrison, Jr. in next year’s draft.
Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool and Darnell Mooney would make a decent enough group for Justin Fields to work with as long as the defensive and offensive lines are addressed. I’d also be fine with Ryan Poles selecting another receiver on Day 2 or Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Smith-Schuster did not score many touchdowns this year, but he gained nearly 1,000 yards for the Chiefs. Smith-Schuster finished with three touchdowns and 933 yards on 78 catches. His catch rate was 77.,2% this year. If we are looking at the bigger picture, a player like Smith-Schuster with the target of Harrison, Jr. next season makes more sense than trading for the likes of Higgins or Moore.
