The Chicago Bears should consider Miles Sanders should he hit free agency

If the Chicago Bears choose to move on from David Montgomery this offseason, Ryan Poles has a few options to replace him. One, Khalil Herbert should see an increased role, but his inability to block keeps him from being an every-down back. Two, there are plenty of names about to hit free agency who I’d consider an upgrade over Montgomery. One of them would be Miles Sanders.

Sanders brings more of that home run threat that Montgomery lacks. This isn’t a knock on Montgomery as much as it is an appreciation of Sanders. Saquan Barkley and Josh Jacobs are two others who could make free agency interesting this year.

Sanders hit the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career this season. He also came away with 11 touchdowns on the ground. That said, he has averaged over five yards per carry in both 2020 and 2021. He isn’t a slouch when it comes to catching the football out of the backfield either.
