Chicago Bears Draft Profile: Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown
By Dakota Wayne
Once the Chicago Bears got rid of Roquan Smith, it became apparent that the Bears were going to need to add linebacker depth to their defense.
And while Jack Sanborn played very well his rookie year, it might be smart to add another piece to the middle of the defense.
Someone who could fit that need is Texas Longhorns linebacker, DeMarvion Overshown. Overshown was actually brought into Austin to be a safety but then transitioned to a linebacker that put together some really nice tape in his time as a Longhorn.
The Chicago Bears should consider drafting DeMarvion Overshown
As a former safety, Overshown is a natural pass-defender. With a reported 4.55 speed, he has sideline-to-sideline speed that flies off the tape. On top of that, he’s able to fill gaps quickly enough to meet ball carriers in the backfield of plays.
And with his experience at safety, he lays quite a punch when attacking the ball.

His production and lack of experience solely at linebacker could cause him to drop to the third or fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and if that’s the case, the Chicago Bears should feel very justified in bringing him into their defense.
As mentioned earlier, Jack Sanborn was an incredible find for the Chicago Bears, and he wasn’t even drafted. It’s become apparent that the Bears don’t want to use high-value draft capital on linebackers, which led to Roquan Smith’s departure.
Considering DeMarvion Overshown’s experience as both a safety and a linebacker, it wouldn’t shock me to see Ryan Poles use a late Day 2 or earlier Day 3 pick on the Texas Longhorn safety/linebacker hybrid.
Especially due to how poorly the defense played against the pass, getting a hybrid athlete like Overshown could be a major impact on the Chicago Bears defense.
