Chicago Bears Free Agent Target No. 4: Jakobi Meyers, WR – New England
Jakobi Meyers has been a difference-maker ever since he stepped into the league coming from the bottom of New England’s depth charts. Meyers is coming off of back-to-back 800-yard seasons and has put up 700-yard seasons every year since his rookie year. Meyers has been nothing but consistent and should be a great option as a potential WR3 or WR2 for the Chicago Bears.
Meyers is not a candidate to be franchise tagged as I would be stunned if New England were to exercise their tag on him. Especially since they have a new offensive coordinator and plenty of depth on their roster. I think Meyers has a relatively high ceiling for the Bears if they sign him because his usage wasn’t always consistent in New England.
Meyers is projected to sign a four-year, $50 million dollar deal by Spotrac, but I would not be surprised if he got more considering how much Christian Kirk got from the Jaguars last year. The wide receiver market is always inflated because of how valuable the position is and how hard it is to find good players at the position. I would be fine with the Bears matching anything up to four years and $65 million dollars for the wide receiver out of NC State.
Chase Claypool has shown you nothing as a Bear that says that he can be a long-term solution, and the Bears should be aggressive in finding WRs in the offseason. Just last season we saw the Jaguars massively overpay and shock the football world by handing out a massive contract to Christian Kirk, but that deal has worked out handsomely for them. Hopefully, the Bears have similar luck.
