5. Is Keenan Allen available for the Chicago Bears

There have already been reports that this may be the end of Keenan Allen with the Los Angeles Chargers. While that may be the case, some fans are hoping for him to get released, when it is more likely that he is traded.

The Chargers want to save some cap space, but his salary is not an issue for most teams. So, teams like the Chicago Bears will give the Chargers a later draft pick to ensure that they can add Allen, and not have to bid for him as a free agent.

The Chargers obviously would like a pick more than a release. Beyond that, the team can save $16.3M if they release him, but $17.3M if they trade him. They get an extra million in cap space which will incentivize this. The team adding him would have him for 2023, and 2024. His cap hit would be a bit higher next season, but the cap goes up, the team trading for him can move the cap space, and if he is a great fit, an extension is possible to smooth it over. This would be a great fit.
