The Chicago Bears trade back with the Carolina Panthers

Let me start off by saying, I fully expect Ryan Poles to make multiple trades in the 2023 NFL Draft. That said, it doesn’t necessarily mean he will make two trades within the first round. Instead, I am going to guess he moves back and even up throughout Day 2 and Day 3 of the draft. We saw him turn five picks into 11 last season. I only made the first-round trade in this mock, but I think in my next one I’ll focus on trades in the later rounds. For now, here’s how things shook out in the trade with the Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers are now being led by former Eagles offensive coordinator (won a Super Bowl in 2017) and former Colts head coach Frank Reich. Reich likes quarterbacks and just struggled with revolving veterans in Indianapolis. You’d have to think the team isn’t looking to count on Sam Darnold in 2023. Instead, I would peg them as a team likely to select a quarterback with their first-round pick. In this scenario, they move up from nine to first overall.

The trade netted the Chicago Bears two second-round picks this year, a future first-round pick and a future second-round pick. Not to mention, this trade keeps the Chicago Bears in the top 10 when they swap firsts. One of those second-round picks is in the top 40, giving Chicago the opportunity to land two of the best prospects in the league.
