A Tee Higgins trade makes more sense for the Chicago Bears

If the Chicago Bears are truly interested in trading for a wide receiver, then Tee Higgins has to be on the top of the list. Again, it will require the Bengals to truly be interested in moving on from him, but that’s not a guarantee. Right now, Higgins is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Many believe that the Bengals could struggle to find a way to pay him, Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.

Burrow is also going into the final year of his rookie contract, but since he was a first-rounder, the Bengals are sure to pick up his fifth-year option. That gives them some wiggle room financially in 2024 to hang onto Higgins. However, Burrow will likely be paid this offseason or next. He will see top dollar at the QB position. Ja’Marr Chase will be hitting his fifth-year option in 2025, but will also need to be paid. Can the Bengals hold onto all three? Yes, but it may cause them to take hits elsewhere on the roster.

If the Bengals look at this from a macro level and decide that Higgins is not in their future, it makes sense for them to possibly move on from him this offseason in a trade. This way they are guaranteed to see draft capital in return for Higgins rather than possibly losing him to free agency in 2024. If the Bears were to trade for Higgins, it will cost more than a second-rounder as they sent for Chase Claypool before the 2022 NFL trade deadline.
