By all accounts, the Chicago Bears landed the top candidate in the head coaching cycle this offseason with Ben Johnson. Johnson was highly sought after last year before he went back to Detroit and coordinated a dominant offense that featured heaps of creativity.
Many media members and analysts may be surprised that Johnson went for the Bears since he had been picky in the past, and had options to choose from. However, there are enough reasons to understand why the Bears were the job that the top candidate wanted.
3. The Bears roster is set up to win now
Ryan Poles has had some huge whiffs, but he also has enough hits that he kept his job and has the roster looking attractive. The Bears have two young, and talented wide receivers and they have an ascending right tackle to pair with a starting-caliber left tackle. The secondary has the chance to be elite on paper and the linebackers are big names to say the leats. When you add in Gervon Dexter and Montez Sweat on the line there are enough pieces here that this roster will not be rebuilding.
2. Caleb Williams has the Bears looking attractive
The Bears' job is the top job because they have a quarterback who was deemed generational at this time last year. He had enough flashes as a rookie that most coaches would say that they could do wonders with him in their system. Ben Johnson is no different. Caleb Williams is much cheaper, but it is still impressive that he drew Johnson's attention when quarterbacks such as Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott needed coaches as well.
1. The Chicago Bears still have history
Chicago is a massive market and the Bears are a nationally discussed football team due to the widespread nature of the fan base. This is a fanbase that has had little to cheer about in the last decade or so as well. There is something about being the man who comes into Chicago and turns the Bears around. It adds an aura that only a few franchises with similar historical reverence have. The Raiders just moved, the Jaguars may move, and the Bears are a Chicago staple, and that means something.
