5 needs for the Chicago Bears following Drew Dalman signing

The Chicago Bears signed center Drew Dalman in a move that may not have been too surprising. The Bears had been linked to Dalman in recent weeks and after trading for Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney, addressing the center position in free agency became the obvious move.

The Bears have resolved three holes on the offensive line. With that in mind, what are the other needs currently on the roster?

Edge rusher

This is officially the biggest need on the roster. They do not have any significant names to throw in across from Montez Sweat, and they have already moved on from DeMarcus Walker to make the group worse on paper than it was last year. The team will upgrade this; the question is whether they can find a free agent or if they are better off taking a high-end edge rusher at pick 10.

Running back

We know that Ben Johnson loves to mix and match his running backs based on the situation. Even if they keep D’Andre Swift, they have to add one running back. If they move on from Swift, they have to add two. Does this mean Ashton Jeanty, a day two back, or even a potential free agent like Jamal Williams, who is familiar with Johnson.

Free Safety

The Bears could save some money by moving on from Kevin Byard, who did not play well enough to lock his status on the roster.

Left tackle

The offensive line is set on paper, but Braxton Jones is coming off of a serious injury that could have him working to get back or struggling next year. They need to establish a veteran tackle who can jump in for Jones in a pinch, or they could take one high in the draft knowing that Jones is in the final year of his rookie contract.

Slot wide receiver

The Bears are unlikely to bring back Keenan Allen. The type of receiver they bring in as the third will tell us a lot about the personnel they plan to use, and how much they want to put D.J. Moore or Rome Odunze in the slot next year.
