A Bears-Nahshon Wright reunion feels more like the one that should happen

They should call about him.

Chicago Bears fans will never forget the 2025 season that cornerback Nahshon Wright had, but maybe the franchise needs a reminder of it too, since its secondary has not been great.

Wright was a beast for the Bears last year, creating 10 turnovers, which was the most in the NFL. He had five interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 2025. The NFL included Wright as a Pro Bowl selection for the first time in his career.

During the offseason, the Bears decided to pass on re-signing him to the team, and instead, Wright signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the New York Jets. This has clearly not worked out on either side, and a trade would actually be the best course of action for everyone.

Nahshon Wright has been a shell of himself in 2026 after departing the Bears

Many believed that when Wright bolted the Bears for the Jets, he would be the key to helping New York break the streak of games without an interception. He brought the turnover mindset the Jets needed, creating nearly a third of Chicago's 33 turnovers last season.

So far, that hasn't even come close to being the case. Wright has barely played for the Jets, appearing in just three games. He's made a staggeringly low number of tackles this year. Wright has only played in 22 snaps all season, and all of them were on special teams.

This has left a lot of people puzzled and confused as to why the Jets even signed Wright in the first place and are giving him over $5 million to sit on the bench. It makes the Bears' opportunity to go after him make more sense than ever.

Bears need to trade for Nahshon Wright (and they could get him cheap)

The best part about a potential trade for Wright is that Chicago would not have to give up a lot for him. New York would love to just get him off the books and wouldn't be picky about a draft pick. If the Bears gave up like a sixth round pick, the Jets would be more than likely to accept that and move on.

Chicago has proven that they need help in the secondary and may not be willing to spend too much on it. Adding Wright would make all the sense in the world for them.

Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson have struggled throughout the season in coverage, as both are allowing a passer rating of over 110. The only outside cornerback who has played with some consistency is rookie fourth-round pick Malik Muhammad.

Bringing Wright in would be perfect since he and Bears defensive backs coach Al Harris have a long and great relationship starting with the Dallas Cowboys and continuing in Chicago last year. Harris will be able to coach Wright up to be the guy who was a turnover machine in 2025.

There is going to be some consistency issues with Wright, though, that Bears fans might have to prepare for. Last year, Wright did allow a 66.7% completion percentage and a passer rating of 109.7. Still, those are numbers that are better than what Stevenson and Johnson are doing.

Wright might be able to give Stevenson and Johnson the push they need to play better. If anything, though, Wright is good insurance in case things go south with the veteran corners.

The Bears should look heavily at the cornerback position because it has been a weak point on this roster. Adding Wright for a cheap trade cost just makes all the sense in the world.
