The NFL news cycle has been a little dry since the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft, but Chicago Bears fans better get ready, because Adam Schefter hit us with some serious intel just a couple of days before the official schedule release.
Appearing on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show, Schefter spoke with McAfee about some schedule nuggets as we have started to see a few leaks here and there. Along with confirming that we will hear about the international slate on Wednesday, Schefter had this to say:
"My guess right now is that it will be the Bears in Seattle for the Wednesday night opener against the Seahawks."
It hasn't been confirmed yet, but there are a whole lot of folks guessing the same thing right now. And it makes a ton of sense.
The Chicago Bears could open the 2026 season against the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks
If you look at the potential home opponents the Seahawks could open with, right now, there are only four based on what we know about the current schedule shaking out: the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers and the Bears.
Assuming the NFL cares about money and ratings -- duh -- then the Cardinals are completely out of the question. For a Week 1 opener, there's no shot for Arizona getting in there.
Next, you have the Patriots. But, a Super Bowl rematch in Week 1? Come on. We all know the league isn't doing that.
And then, there's the Chargers, who might end up providing a great game and one that the fans would love to watch. But, there's something about the Bears and the NFL in prime time.
After the things we watched Caleb Williams do on prime time TV last year, I don't think the NFL is going to get this one wrong. This was meant to be. It is going to be Bears and Seahawks come September 9.
It's the moment we'll all be waiting the next four months for.
Imagine opening the season with a chance to knock off the reigning Super Bowl champs.
