This entire turn of events is going to send Chicago Bears fans back a few years.
Through all of this, though, just remember one thing: the Bears have Caleb Williams.
But, once upon a time it was Justin Fields in Chicago as the Bears' hopeful franchise quarterback. And, after the Bears traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers when they knew they'd be selecting Williams, the former Ohio State product's movement had only begun.
Per NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Fields has now been traded from the New York Jets to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs give up a sixth-round pick for Fields, who is in the second year of a 2-year contract he originally signed with the Jets.
Latest Justin Fields trade is a weird circle of emotions for Chicago Bears fans
Just think about it for a moment. Back in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Bears infamously traded up to the no. 2 overall pick in order to select Mitchell Trubisky. A few picks later, the Chiefs would select Patrick Mahomes.
For the next several years, Trubisky and Mahomes would be linked. In fact, they may just forever be linked, and there's nothing we can do about it.
Remember, Williams is a Bear now. Breathe.
Trubisky would, of course, go on to flame out with the Bears and then, Chicago turned their attention to yet another first-round quarterback ... Justin Fields.
Meanwhile, at the same time the Bears drafted Fields, Mahomes had already won a Super Bowl.
Keep breathing. Everything is fine.
Now, Fields gets traded to back up ... Mahomes?
This is some sick and twisted alternate universe for Bears fans, and if it hadn't been for Caleb Williams, this news would hurt a whole heck of a lot more.
For the Chiefs, it does make a lot of sense. Giving up a sixth rounder for Fields, while the Jets pay almost all of his contract, is a huge win. Mahomes, as we know, is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered late last season.
In a perfect world, Mahomes is healthy and ready for Week 1. But, if he were to start the season by missing the first four games, having Fields isn't the worst option, especially with the addition of Kenneth Walker III in that back field.
Fields has always been a threat to make plays with his legs. But, with a legit playmaker at running back sharing the back field, Fields can be at his best.

We know he isn't going to be a prolific passer or even a starter, altogether, at this stage, but it's good to see him land on his feet and continue his career.
