The season is rolling on and the Chicago Bears are looking at their roster and might be feeling pretty good about the new additions to the team.
From the three new starting interior offensive linemen to adding rookies Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III to the passing game, the Bears appear to be stacked. That doesn't include the upgrades they made on the defensive line with Grady Jarrett and Dayo Odeyingbo.
Chicago has Montez Sweat and Odeyingbo coming off the edge to pressure the quarterback. It seems like a great thing on paper, but both guys are coming off seasons where they had less than six sacks. The Bears must have more production from that standpoint.
There is a solution the Bears must consider as the team nears the trade deadline in a couple of months.
Bears should call Giants about Kayvon Thibodeaux
For the New York Giants, this might seem like an insane idea since their defensive line is stacked in 2025. Thibodeaux joins Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence II, and Abdul Carter as the Giants has a ton of speed and power on the line.
Since being drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Thibodeaux has made 47 quarterback hits and 21.5 sacks. His best season came in 2023, where he had career-highs in sacks (11.5), tackles (50), and forced fumbles (three).
The Giants are coming off a 21-6 blowout loss to the Washington Commanders, which could be a sign of things to come for the team. If New York ends up being non-contenders in November, why wouldn't they entertain a trade for Thibodeaux?
There are only two more years on Thibodeaux's contract, and the team will have to make a tough decision on Carter soon enough; if he lives up to expectations, it will be an expensive contract. The Giants have other needs on the roster and have enough in the front seven to be okay without Thibodeaux.
That's where Bears general manager Ryan Poles can come in and make an intriguing offer for a 24-year-old edge rusher. Poles will have to give up a lot, which could include a potential first or second round pick. Most likely, it would be two to three strong picks to make the deal happen.
It would at least be a cheap option for the Bears in the interim, but would need the offseason to work on a new deal if it works out. Poles might be inspired to do something about Sweat and trade him if he has another down season, and elevate Austin Booker to a bigger role on the line.

This might be a tough deal to get done, but the Bears need to hit a home run and give them a young difference maker that can impact the defense. Thibodeaux is worth at least a conversation.
