When the Chicago Bears were on the clock early in Round 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft, a majority of fans knew the team was going to go offense once again.
Little did those fans know, general manager Ryan Poles was not thinking running back.
Instead, the Bears found arguably the steal of the draft when they selected Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III. After seeing a pair of Ohio State running backs fly off the board, some fans were a little distrought.
The Burden pick should have changed the tone quite a bit.
At least, the feeling in that Bears draft room was electric. In the video posted by Bears social media, you could see Poles along with head coach Ben Johnson and team president Kevin Warren celebrating the pick.
The Bears stole Luther Burden in Round 2 and they know it
Maybe the most excited of them all was wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El who came up behind Poles and Johnson, giving them hugs around the neck before he was handed the phone to chat it up with Burden himself.
"You ready boy? We're going to the top of the mountain, baby, and you're going with us," Randle El told his new wideout.
For any fans upset about the Bears taking a wide receiver when they "didn't need one," the selection was a pure Ben Johnson pick out of greed -- and that's a positive.
When the Bears reported for their initial portion of voluntary offseason workouts, players told the media that Johnson's message to the team was simple.
"Win and win by a lot," Johnson told the team.
It turns out, he wasn't lying. Chicago's offense now features an embarrassment of riches for Caleb Williams to work with in the passing game. Not to mention, Burden can absolutely be used in those fun and creative ways Johnson is so famous for drawing up. He is one of the draft's most electrifying weapons, especially after the catch.
The Bears brass is pumped, and you should be too. If you're not on board by now, there's still time.
Burden was a complete steal and this fan base should be elated.
