With training camp just days away, the Chicago Bears look to be in pretty good shape in terms of their overall roster. Yet, one position continues to be a topic of mild concern: defensive end.
Ryan Poles has yet to add another pass rusher, like many fans have long wanted, and one of the Bears' budding NFC rivals just highlighted the frustration by making a very similar move. The Washington Commanders officially signed 8-time Pro Bowler Von Miller.
Now, was this the exact move Bears fans have been asking for? No, because Miller isn't necessarily a fit in their defensive scheme. The part that kind of stings, though, is that it had to be the Commanders. It had to be the team which infamously coined last year's "Fail Mary" moment.
And, adding one of the best-available free agents, at the position, is something fans have been asking for.
Ryan Poles looks to be repeating a recent blunder going into Bears training camp
Remember a couple of years ago, the Bears were in even more desperate need for a pass rusher and Poles waited until August to sign Yannick Ngakoue?
This might not be as dire a situation, but going into camp with a clear lack of depth at the position is definitely alarming and frustrating for some fans. While the Bears have a strong starter in Montez Sweat, we really don't know what they've got behind him.
Sure, the Bears signed Dayo Odeyingbo to a big free agent contract. But, the production has yet to speak to the contract he was rewarded with. If he lives up to it, great. Poles looks like a genius. But, right now, the position is still a question mark and much of it has to do with Odeyingbo being somewhat of a wild card.
Could Austin Booker take a leap? It appears that's what the Bears are counting on. If training camp or preseason proves the Bears' need, though, Poles might be out of time.

Other free agent pass rushers still include Matt Judon, Za'Darius Smith and Jadeveon Clowney.
