NFL.com recently tried to rank the strength of each division based on which division had the strongest group of quarterbacks. The NFC North wound up ranked sixth out of the eight divisions; the division ranking went as follows:
8. AFC South
7. NFC South
6. NFC North
5. AFC North
4. AFC East
3. NFC East
2. NFC West
1. AFC West
How Caleb Williams stacks up against the NFC North, NFL
Here is what the author said about the Chicago Bears and how they impacted the rankings
"Williams, 23, survived a rough rookie season fraught with organizational dysfunction. The Bears brought in reinforcements, including a new coaching regime led by Ben Johnson, keeping the expectations high for their chosen franchise quarterback, with only a season's worth of evidence to suggest he can live up to them."
The criteria for this ranking seem to be interesting. First, the list is based solely on 2024 play. As noted, it has no expectations for Williams in 2025, and Williams is ranked 28th on his list of quarterbacks.
Beyond that, the rankings appear to be very subjective. Jared Goff is ranked fourth, and Baker Mayfield is ranked sixth. Both are ahead of Patrick Mahomes, who was ranked seventh on this list. I am not a General Manager, but I am sure that 32 out of 32 would not trade the higher-ranked passers for the lesser player on this list. So, the rankings should certainly be taken with a grain of salt.
Moreover, they are not weighted nearly enough. For example, the AFC North has Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson, two guys ranked in the top three. Yes, Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco should drag them down, but wouldn’t those two be worse for teams than Kyler Murray, Matt Stafford, Brock Purdy, and Sam Darnold, four fine quarterbacks, but none close to the tier of Jackson and Burrow?

It is fun to discuss, but you wish that the rankings of the individual quarterbacks were more in line with league-wide expectations and that the grouping was more in tiers so that the top names could rise to the top.
