The Chicago Bears didn't quite provide a definitive answer to their need for an edge rusher this offseason.

While the Bears did sign Dayo Odeyingbo to a three-year contract at the start of free agency, there appears to be a deal where the team is hoping the projection after Odeyingbo's start to his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts can lead to a breakout with his new team.

There was an expectation that the Bears may add an edge rusher during the early rounds of the draft, but the only rookie added to the team's defensive line was Shemar Turner.

Given the moves for Turner and Odeyingbo, the Bears are entering a season where there will be added pressure on one of Austin Booker or Dominique Robinson. Chances are that pressure would land with Booker, as even with the lack of attention paid to their edge rushing need this offseason, Robinson is likely facing an uphill climb toward making the 53-man roster.

Still, with Booker entering his second season in the NFL, it would likely that the Bears will be in the market for experienced depth.

A reunion for the Chicago Bears' defensive line

That search could return the Bears to a familiar face as DeMarcus Walker remains a free agent. Walker was released by the Bears in February in a move that created additional salary cap space for the Bears. With the heavy lifting of the offseason done for the Bears, bringing back Walker would provide value to the team's defensive line.

In his two seasons with the Bears, Walker totaled 7 sacks with 16 tackles for loss. Originally signed to play on the opposite side of Montez Sweat, Walker shifted to a hybrid role over the last two years, splitting his time between the interior and exterior of the defensive line.

That type of versatility is something that new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen values. Not to mention, last season, there were clear times that Walker was shining on the Bears' defensive line. Given that depth is still needed, the Bears would be wise to bring Walker back as soon as possible.
