The Chicago Bears open rookie mini-camp on Friday, and before the team's newest draft class hits the field, the Bears wasted no time in making sure first-round pick Colston Loveland had his contract signed.
The Bears announced on Thursday that Loveland has signed his rookie contract.
Colston Loveland among latest contract signings finalized by Bears
Loveland gets a four-year deal with his first contract with the Bears, worth $26.64MM. The deal includes a $16.01MM signing bonus in addition to a fifth-year option that has become standard for first-round picks.
Given that rookie contracts are slotted, there often isn't much drama that comes with a first-round pick signing their contract with the team that drafts them. Even last year, despite Caleb Williams not signing his rookie contract right away, there was never a fear that he was going to be a holdout once training camp started in July.
Loveland was one of five rookies from the Bears' 2025 draft class to have signed their respective rookie contracts on Thursday. Linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II, cornerback Zah Frazier, offensive lineman Luke Newman, and running back Kyle Monangai also signed their deals on Thursday.
If you're keeping track at home, all three of the Bears' second-round picks have yet to sign their respective deals. Given the frustration that Luther Burden III had on draft night, after not being taken in the first round, it could just be some last-minute negotiating over the language of the deal. There's no reason to think Burden won't have his contract signed by the time training camp opens in July. The same can be said for Ozzy Trapilo and Shemar Turner. An important note is that all three players can still participate in the team's mini-camp this weekend, even if they remain unsigned.
Beyond the contract news, the Bears also revealed the jersey numbers for their draft class.
